​The process to apply, interview, and obtain a position within the State of Wisconsin may seem overwhelming at times. The information below provides an overview of the process and additional resources to assist you with your job search.  

Recruitments that are open to the public are posted on the official Wisconsin State Government employment website Wisc.Jobs. State Government positions open exclusively to disabled veterans are posted on WiscJobs For Vets (use logo)​
​Step 1: Search for Position  

Search for a position using criteria such as agency, location, or job title.
Step 2: Account Creation 

Create an account by entering the requested information. If applicable, you can also upload your resume.

Step 3:Apply for Position 

Follow the application instructions listed on each individual vacancy posting.  This may include providing information about yourself, uploading a resume or other documents, or providing narrative answers to job related questions regarding your qualifications for the position serving as the employment examination for the position. Ensure that your application is complete by the deadline date.

Step 1: Assessment

Shortly after the application deadline date, application materials are evaluated and examination submissions are scored.
Step 2 :Notification 

Applicants will receive a notice of examination results to indicate eligibility for further consideration.
Step 3: Interview

Typically, the most qualified (top scoring) exam registrants are certified and invited for an interview.

Step 4: Offer and Onboarding 

Reference and background checks are performed prior to offering the position.

The selected candidate is provided an official appointment letter and instructions on what to bring for their first day, orientation and in processing​.

Most employees serve an initial probationary period (term indicated in the job announcement) in which the employee receives additional orientation and performance evaluation.
