About WDVA

Serving Those Who Served Since 1945

The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) has been dedicated to supporting veterans and their families for nearly eight decades. Established in 1945 to unify Wisconsin’s veteran services under one agency, WDVA continues to honor and assist those who served by offering comprehensive programs and benefits.

Our mission is to serve Wisconsin veterans and their families to ensure they receive the recognition, care, and opportunities they have earned.

Our Programs & Services

WDVA offers a wide range of programs tailored to meet the unique needs of veterans at every stage of life:

Leadership & Governance

WDVA is led by a Secretary of Veterans Affairs, appointed by the Governor of Wisconsin. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Wisconsin State Senate.

The department also receives guidance from a nine-member, citizen advisory Board of Veterans Affairs, ensuring that policies and programs reflect the needs and interests of Wisconsin veterans.
