Veterans Retraining Grant

Recently unemployed or underemployed veterans may receive up to $3,000 per year, for a maximum of two years, if they have a financial need while being retrained for employment. The amount of the grant is determined by the applicant’s financial need as calculated by the WDVA. Other education or retraining grants will be included when determining the veteran’s financial need for this program and should be included on the application.

For technical education programs, complete the Retraining Grant Applications (WDVA 2019).

For on-the-job training programs, employers must submit the OJT Retraining Grant Application (WDVA 2039).


Veterans Employment Grant

Provides funding of up to $5,000 for full-time and $2,500 for part-time to an employer for each hire of a veterans with a service-connected Federal VA disability rating of at least 50 percent.

  • Full-time hire: $5,000 for each disabled veteran an employer employs for 12 consecutive months to work a full-time job at the employer’s business in Wisconsin. $2,500 following the first six months of employment and $2,500 following the second six months of employment.
  • Part-time hire: Up to $2,500 for each disabled veteran an employer employee for 12 consecutive months to work a part-time job at the employer’s business in Wisconsin. Up to $1,250 following the first six months of employment and up to $1,250 following the second six months of employment.
