Melanie Bohn served in the Army Reserves starting at 17 while still a junior in high school. She completed her basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, followed by Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, SC. Throughout her military career, she held various roles, beginning as an administrative specialist (MOS 71L) and later earning the designations of patient administrative specialist (MOS 91G) and human resource specialist (42A). Melanie was a proud member of the 7211th MSU until its disbandment and subsequently served with the 1908th Combat Stress Control unit. Notably, she deployed with the Kansas National Guard’s 1-108th Aviation to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006 to 2007.
After 16 years of dedicated service, Melanie transitioned to civilian life. She moved to Wisconsin, where she now has the honor of caring for fellow veterans at the Zablocki VA Hospital. Driven by her passion for supporting veterans, she is pursuing a social work degree to aid those adjusting to civilian life after deployment.
In her personal life, Melanie has been happily married for 23 years and is the proud mother of four daughters. Her oldest is currently serving in the Wisconsin National Guard and is engaged to a fellow soldier. Her second daughter studies criminal justice at UW-Parkside and will soon transfer to Carroll University. The youngest two are finishing up first grade and K5.
Melanie is excited to connect with others and share her unique experiences, as she recognizes the importance of finding community among those who can relate to her journey.
