March 4, 2026 - Madison, WI

MADISON— Navy veteran and retired Oneida County veteran service officer, Tammy Javenkoski, was appointed to the Wisconsin Board of Veterans Affairs, a nine-member, part-time citizen advisory board to the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs. The board has one representative from each of the state’s eight congressional districts and one at-large member. Javenkoski will serve as the District 7 member.

“I want to extend a warm welcome to Tammy Javenkoski in joining the Wisconsin Board of Veterans Affairs,” said Secretary James Bond. “Her commitment and dedication to veterans over the past 20 years have been exemplary in her former role as CVSO for Oneida County. I am excited to have her as a passionate advocate and voice for our state’s veterans on the board.”

Tammy began working as the Oneida County Veterans Service Officer in February 2006 and retired after 20 years in February 2026. During her Naval career, she served aboard a submarine tender in Kings Bay, GA, and a destroyer in Norfolk, VA, and was stationed overseas in Diego Garcia and Greece, as well as at four shore duty stations, including San Diego, CA; Pensacola, FL; and twice in Great Lakes, IL. She retired in November 2004 as a Senior Chief Navy Counselor (E-8) after serving over 21 years.

“My entire adult life has been in service to others.” said Javenoski. “I served in the Navy for over 21 years.  But when I started as the Oneida County Veterans Service Officer, I realized I was working my dream job. Helping veterans is my calling in life. I’m so proud to be a BOVA member, and I plan to continue to make a difference in veterans’ lives.”

Tammy resides in Rhinelander with her husband, Jim, a Marine Corps veteran, and her son, Connor, a college student. She is a member of the American Legion Post 318, Am Vets Post 724, Camp Ryan Adams, DAV Post 62, NCO Club of Rhinelander & Tomahawk, and VFW Post 3143. Tammy’s retirement plans are to continue serving and supporting veterans and their families through the veterans’ organizations of which she’s a member.
