Financial Assistance for veterans still serving in the military (active or reserve), those within 180 days of discharge and those being treated through a wounded warrior program.

The Supportive Service for Veterans and Families grants are awarded to private non-profit organizations that will assist low-income Veterans and Veteran Families residing in or transitioning to permanent housing.  Grantees will provide a range of supportive services to eligible Veteran families that are designed to promote housing stability.

Who is eligible to participate in the SSVF Program:

  • A member of a “Veteran family”.  Either a Veteran, or a member of a family in which the head of household, or the spouse of the head of household, is a Veteran.
  • Very low-income; Household income does not exceed 50% of area median income.   The VA uses the median income for an area or community determined using the income limits most recently published by the Development for programs under section 8 of the US Housing Act of 1937 (42 U.S.C. 1437f), which can be found at www.huduser.org/portal/datasets/il.html.

This information should be helpful in order to direct these services to a veteran or a veteran family in need.  To qualify for the other benefits listed below as part of the grant, a Veteran or Veteran Family must first meet the requirements for the housing need.
